Australia has set Pakistan 490 to win at the Gabba on day three of the first test.

The mammoth chase would be a world record if Pakistan can get it done.

The Aussies raced to 5/202 from 39 overs in the second innings on the back of 74 from Usman Khawaja and 63 from skipper Steve Smith, before declaring at the dinner break.

Peter Handscomb also added a quick fire 35* from 26 balls to his first innings century.

Earlier, the Aussies cleaned up Pakistan for 142, a scorecard that could have been more embarrassing but for Sarfraz Ahmed’s battling 59* which included a 54 run stand for the 10th wicket with Mohammad Amir.

The Aussie bowlers shared the load, with Mitch Starc taking 3/63, Josh Hazlewood 3/22 and Jackson Bird 3/23.

The other wicket was a run out effected by David Warner.
