The Australian women's cricket team has taken out the opening game of the series against England today at Allen Border Field.

The Aussies were set 229 to win by the visitors and were guided home by veteran Alex Blackwell who crafted a well made 67 off 86 balls.

Young gun Ash Gardner was the game changer for the Aussies, coming in at a tricky stage of the chase and blasting 27 off 18 balls to swing the momentum Australia's way.

Gardner was also Australia's main contributor with the ball snagging 3 wickets.

Australia chased down the total with 5 balls to spare.

The next game will be played on Thursday.
