The Hobart Hurricanes have announced they will not renew the contract of head coach Damien Wright.

Wright, who has been the head of the Hurricanes since 2013, was let go after three consecutive seasons without a finals appearance.

Wright will stay on in his coaching role with the Tasmanian Tigers.

Cricket Tasmania chairman thanked Wright for his time with the club.

“Damien’s time as coach was highlighted by making the Big Bash Final in 2013 and a semi final berth in the Champion’s League in India in 2014, however the club’s on-field performance over the past couple of years has been below expectations and the board has decided to move forward with a coaching structure that is separate from the Tasmanian Tigers in the future," he said.

"Damien will continue as senior assistant coach of the Tasmanian Tigers and the board look forward to working with him in that role.

"On behalf of the Cricket Tasmania board, management and staff, members and fans I want to thank Damien for his enthusiasm, engagement and overall service to the Hobart Hurricanes."
