Banished England all-rounder Ben Stokes is having a nightmare on his return to cricket for Kiwi side Canterbury in their clash with Otago.

Playing in the New Zealand domestic one-day competition, the Ford Trophy, at Rangiora, Stokes was bowled by left arm spinner Anaru Kitchen for two off just seven balls.

Stokes came in at 2/5 and departed with Canterbury in disarray at 3/8 in the fourth over after chopping on.

He cramped himself for room trying to throw the bat at one that was too close to his body and succeeded only in inside edging on to his stumps, with the off peg knocked out of the ground.

His fortunes haven’t improved with the ball — opening with Fraser Sheat, he’s coughed up 26 runs off his first four overs.

Stokes's Canterbury are defending 222, with Otago 0/81 off 15 overs.
