South Australia and Adelaide Strikers wicketkeeper/batsman Alex Carey has been called up to Australia’s ODI squad as cover for Tim Paine.
Paine has been hit by the gastro bug that has already ruled out Josh Hazlewood and has been doing the rounds of both Ashes squads.
Carey will be released back to the Strikers to play against the Renegades on Monday if Paine is cleared to play.
Carey’s form has been white hot in the BBL, with his century leading the Strikers to a big win against the Hobart Hurricanes last night.
He has scored 368 runs in the BBL — only Hurricanes opener D’Arcy Short has more — at an average of 61.33 and strike rate of 139.92.
The second ODI starts at 2:20pm AEDT tomorrow at the Gabba.
