Legendary cricket commentator Bill Lawry is set to hang up the mic.

81-year-old Lawry has been a fixture on Channel Nine’s coverage since the late 70s, and decided to call it quits after Nine lost the cricket rights to Channel 7 and Fox Sports.

Both networks were keen to get the popular Victorian on board, but he has declined offers according to the Daily Telegraph.

Lawry was a dour opening batsman as a player, but was colourful and exciting as a commentator — every cricket fan has an impression of his “Got him, yes!” catch cry.

He had taken a reduced role on 9’s commentary over the last few years, only commentating in Melbourne and Sydney.

Lawry made 5234 runs for Australia in his 67 Tests, and captained the national side.
