Former Aussie wicketkeeper Brad Haddin was on the Triple M’s Weekenders with Dan Ginnane this morning, and he opened up for the first time about his encounter with a match fixer in London.

Haddin was on Skype with his wife from his hotel room when a man he didn’t know knocked on the door.

“A guy was standing there with a beautiful bottle of scotch and he said ‘would you like a drink, come to my suite and have a drink’,” Haddin said.

“I said ‘mate I’m fine, I’m just talking to my family at home,’ and it just felt really funny.

“That doesn’t happen, that’s not the norm.”

Haddin’s rebuff just made the man try harder, however.

“As I said I’m not interested I went to shut the door and he put his foot in there,” Hads said.

“And I kicked that away and shut the door and I said to my wife ‘I’ve just gotta report something to management’.

“So I reported to the management and said ‘this just felt wrong’.”

Sure enough, Haddin’s instincts were spot on.

“They went through the footage of the hotel and they found that he’s one of the big match fixers coming out of India and they nabbed him.”

So a happy ending for Haddin’s close encounter then, and with no regrets — although he says “it looked a good bottle of scotch!”
