Veteran Brad Hodge has confirmed that he is retiring from professional cricket.

The 43-year-old missed the last few matches of the Melbourne Renegades season due to a bout of appendicitis, and has since confirmed he won’t play on.

Hodge has to undergo two rounds of emergency surgery, and couldn’t even travel to watch the Renegades’ nail biting loss to the Strikers on Friday night.

“This will be the end of the road,” Hodge told the Herald Sun.

“I’ll represent (South East Cricket Association club) East Sandringham in the finals and that will be it for my cricket career.”

Hodge ends his career with 17,084 First Class runs at an average of 48.81 with 51 tons and 64 50s, including a Test double century.

He averaged 30.26 in ODIs with a ton and three 50s, and scored 7406 in a storied T20 career where he averaged 36.84 from 277 matches.
