Western Australian opener Cameron Bancroft's launch into Ashes contention has furthered, bringing up a huge double ton in the Sheffield Shield.

After sitting on 161 not out overnight against South Australia, Bancroft kept up his incredible form early on day two.

He spanked a four, a six and another four off Travis Head's off spin to bring up his third career double century, and one that could make an Ashes spot hard to resist.

His 228 not out at lunch - surpassing his previous best first class score of 211 - came off 351 balls and featured 22 fours and three sixes.

It takes Bancroft's Sheffield Shield season to 425 runs at an average of 141.67, including carrying his bat last week against New South Wales.

The 24-year-old also scored a double ton two months ago, making 206 not out and 72 in his last county match for Gloucestershire.

Triple M Rocks The Ashes ball by ball from day one of the first Test in Brisbane, Thursday 23 November.
