Big hitting Jamaican Chris Gayle has claimed that he wants to continue playing T20 cricket until he’s 50 and that he wants to return to test cricket next year.

The self-proclaimed “Universe Boss” — who is 37 and doesn't turn 50 until 2029 — says that he wants to keep going until his nine-month-old daughter is old enough to watch him play.

"I want to be the first man to play til 50," Gayle told Fox Sports.

"I'd love her to see me play cricket. I want her to just turn up in the stands and watch dad play a game of cricket, I'd love her to actually witness it one day.”

Gayle claims that age shall not weary him.

"Age is something, it's a number. It's about the body, when you're young you can get away with a lot of things, you definitely do a lot more partying,” he said.

"You have to keep in shape and you have to start eating properly as well, now, being older now, you have to do all these things. Freshen up the body and make sure you can actually last longer."

He also claimed to want to go back to Test cricket in 2018, despite not having played the format since September 2014.

He has scored 7214 runs in the format at an average of 42.18 in 103 matches, but hasn’t played for over two years due to a dispute with the West Indies Cricket Board.

However, he has steadfastly refused to retire from the longest form.

"I will play again," Gayle said.

"I want to score 400 runs in a Test match. I've done two triples, I think I can push it to four [hundred].”
