Cricket Australia has added young Queensland and Brisbane Heat Sam Heazlett batsman to the one day squad to take on New Zealand next week.

The call up comes despite the 21-year-old having never represented his state in the domestic one day competition.

Heazlett has played five List A games in his career, all of them for a Cricket Australia development side called the National Performance Squad in a series featuring Australia A, South Africa A and India A.

He scored a ton and two fifties in that series, averaging 72.25.

The call up has raised some eyebrows, with ex-ODI captain George Bailey not being selected for the trip.

The first game in the series starts at 9am on Monday.
