England middle order batsman Dawid Malan made his debut ton at the WACA last night, with his father Dawid Sr watching on from the stands.

Malan Sr — who played some first class cricket in the late 70s and early 70s — caught up with Triple M Cricket’s Neroli Meadows to discuss what it was like watching his son’s momentous occasion in such a massive match.

“It was very emotional,” Malan Sr said.

“As a father you obviously have some aspirations for your kids and eventually [he] got on to the Ashes tour and then make a hundred here which is absolutely phenomenal.

“I had a little tear in my eye last night.”

Malan Sr said he struggles to watch his son bat.

“It’s tense, you sit on the edge of your seat,” he said.

“When he bats you don’t get up, you sit in the same seat… I think most cricketers all over the world have the same sort of habits.”
