England fast bowler Steven Finn will miss the 2017/18 Ashes series.

After being hit in the nets, scans revealed Finn has torn the cartilage in his left knee and will be sent back home.

The 28-year-old, who was called up to England's squad late to replace all-rounder Ben Stokes, may need surgery on his knee.

The tourists have called up uncapped England all-rounder Tom Curran, who had signed a deal to play for the Hobart Hurricanes, to replace him.

The 22-year-old took 24 wickets at an average of 34.67 and made 274 runs at an average of 27.44 in this year's County Championship.

But his call up came with concern, with former England quick Chris Tremlett - who took 17 wickets in three Tests in their 2010/11 Ashes triumph - expressing doubt over their bowling attack.

"Delighted for TC on his call up to test squad but England are definitely lacking experience in the bowling department," he wrote.
