South African captain Faf du Plessis has slammed the ICC after Steve Smith escaped any sanction for appearing to breach DRS rules in the most recent Test against India.

Du Plessis was convicted of using a lolly to tamper with the condition of the ball during the Hobart test in November, and he’s confused as to why Smith didn’t face any sanction for appearing to look up at the team balcony ahead of a potential review in Bengaluru.

Smith hasn’t denied looking toward the dressing room after his dismissal, calling it a brain fade.

The ICC decided not to press charges against Smith or Virat Kohli for his comments where he heavily implied the Australians are cheats.

Du Plessis is frustrated with what he considers double standards.

“I felt I was treated very harsh,” he said.

“When you see something like that you would hope it would be exactly the same.”

Du Plessis spoke out after the fifth day of their Test against New Zealand in Dunedin was rained out.

“It would have been interesting to see how the Australian media reacted to me doing that (looking up towards the balcony),” he said.

“Purely from the reason what I went through in Australia for something I feel was a lot smaller.”
