The first Ashes Test at the Gabba has been incredibly tight, but Tim Paine’s stumping dismissal of Moeen Ali off the bowling of Nathan Lyon was remarkable even by those standards.

Moeen reached forward to defend a Lyon ball that went through to Paine, and the keeper was quick to whip the bails off and appeal for stumped.

Aleem Dar referred the decision to the third umpire Chris Gaffaney, who ruled that none Moeen’s foot was behind the line and gave him out.

The decision was a matter of perhaps a millimetre:
