Bloody funny quotes!

George Bailey probably won't be getting a recall to the Test side for the upcoming Ashes series.

But that hasn't hurt his confidence.

The 35-year-old played five Tests for Australia, all in the 5-0 whitewash over England in 2013/14, where he scored 183 runs at 26.14.

He told The Age he's given himself a new nickname thanks to his 100 per cent record.

"I think anyone who has scored 40 or 50 over the last couple of weeks has had their name bandied in the paper but I just had to get myself up to No.3 today – the 'whitewash wizard' as I refer to myself," he laughed.

After batting at six in that series, and with a selection dilemma facing that exact spot four years later, Bailey joked that he should be "a lock" for the gig.

"I would have thought I was a lock for the Gabba Test given that no one has really put their hand up," he said on Tuesday.

"I am the only bloke left who really knows how to absolutely demolish them (England) who is not already in that Test team.

"The phone is on – I am expecting 'Boof' (Darren Lehmann) and 'Cracker' (Trevor Hohns) to probably call tonight."

It's not as if Bailey isn't in terrible form, either: the veteran has 226 runs at 37.50 this Shield season after 373 runs at 62.16 in the JLT Cup.

It caught Tasmania teammate James Faulkner's attention, who had a good laugh, posting the quotes on Twitter along with a few laughing emojis.

Former AFL player and another Tassie native in Brad Green agreed, with "#playgeorge" in response.
