Open and honest chat

Big hitting Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell joined Mark Howard on Triple M's Ashes coverage and spoke of his burning desire to return to the Australian Test side.

Maxwell has worn the famous Baggy Green in seven Tests, including a knock of 104 against India in Ranchi, but has been absent from the side since scoring 38 and 24* against Bangladesh in September.

Following his omission from Australia Test side, Maxwell admitted that he had taken some time to think about what he really wanted from the game, but forcing his way back into the Test side is what ultimately drove him.

"It’s something that I’ve portably thought more about over the past 12 months, just to understand what I really want with my cricket," Maxwell told Triple M.

"(But) Every time I open that bag with my Baggy Green hat in it, everything just comes beautifully back in focus again.

"That’s exactly what I want to do, that’s exactly where I want to be."

Having the ability to strike a big ball, Maxwell is a hot commodity amongst Twenty20 leagues, and Howie asked the Victorian if the motivation remained to earn his eight Test cap for Australia, or if the big money of T20 leagues around the world was where he saw his cricketing future.

"I did think about it for a while once I was out of the team and once I did get dropped from the One Day side," Maxwell said.

"I certainly crossed my mind that I could walk away, but the burning desire to play Test cricket for Australia is still there."
