Australia has made a great start to the tour of India, with most of the batsmen making runs before the bowlers took early wickets.

Dave Warner and Matty Renshaw missed out, but Steve Smith (107) and Shaun Marsh (104) both made unbeaten tons before retiring.

Pete Handscomb made a tidy 45 off 70 balls before Mitch Marsh (75) and Matthew Wade (who made 64 and batted above Glenn Maxwell) combined for a stand of 129.

The Aussies declared at 7/469 after 127 overs with Maxwell on 16 and Steve O’Keefe eight.

Nathan Lyon then the damage for the Aussies with the ball, ripping out both openers after coming at first change.

India went to tea at 2/68, with Lyon on 2/34 off seven overs and Jackson Bird 0/5 off his five.

The first Test starts on Thursday, under 24 hours after Australia play Sri Lanka in a T20 at Adelaide Oval.
