Australia's leading spinner Nathan Lyon has been rested from Sunday's JLT Cup clash.

Lyon will miss Sunday's clash with Victoria with a shoulder injury, but the Blues assure it is merely a precaution.

The offie fell on his shoulder on Friday, and has been told to rest with his fitness for the Ashes next month the top priority.

New South Wales has been bolstered, however, by the return of Pat Cummins, who is back in Australia after featuring in the Tests against Bangladesh and ODIs against India.

Lyon has been replaced by spinner Will Somerville, who is making his New South Wales debut, while Victoria is unchanged.

The Blues won the toss and will bat first against Victoria.
