Adelaide Strikers opening batsman Jake Weatherald became the first man to make a century in a Big Bash final against the Hobart Hurricanes at Adelaide Oval today.
Weatherald got to the mark off just 58 balls in the 16th over of the innings.
He got there with seven fours and eight sixes in a brutal display of hitting.
Weatherald ended with 115 off 70 balls, just seven shy of D’Arcy Short’s record 122* against Brisbane Heat at the Gabba earlier this season.
As it stands, his score is the third highest in the competition’s history, with Luke Wright’s 117 against the Hurricanes in the 2011/12 edition of the BBL sandwiched between Weatherald and Short.
The Strikers have compiled an extremely formidable total on the back of Weatherald’s astonishing knock, with their 2/202 looking set to be a very difficult chase for the Hurricanes.
