JB Happy With Lehmann Keeping His Job

Triple M Cricket’s James Brayshaw believes Cricket Australia have handled their investigation into the national side’s ball-tampering scandal “pretty well”.

CA chief executive James Sutherland, in particular, has come under scrutiny for the manner in which he has approached the scandal and he surprised many when he announced that national coach Darren Lehmann had no knowledge of the plan to tamper with the ball.

As a result Lehmann will be keeping his job for now. JB is comfortable with that outcome and told Triple M’s Rush Hour on Wednesday that the public had to “separate the process from your own personal desired result”.

Steve Smith, Dave Warner and Cam Bancroft have all flown home from South Africa in disgrace for their involvement in the scheme while Matt Renshaw, Glenn Maxwell and Joe Burns have travelled back the other way as their replacements.

“The majority of Australians have decided that Darren Lehmann has just got to go,” JB said.

“Now that he isn’t going, they’ve got the irrits with Cricket Australia and the way that they’ve handled it.

“I actually think Cricket Australia have handled this pretty well. They came out and said we need the time to find out what went on so we can’t immediately tell you what we’re going to do and what we’re not going to. 

“So they bought themselves the necessary time, they then sent the head of integrity, the head of high performance and the CEO over to South Africa and they have gone through it with, I assume, a fine-tooth comb.

“So if those three men have gone through this thing with a fine-tooth comb and found that Darren Lehmann had no knowledge of what was going on, then we can only assume he had no knowledge of what was going on.”
