Victorian quick James Pattinson has singlehandedly torn Queensland apart in their Sheffield Shield match at Allan Border Field today.

Pattinson took 5/7 from six overs as Victoria steamrolled Queensland for 61 to win by an innings and 11 runs, underlining his Australian credentials.

Pattinson was considered for the Aussie squad in India when Mitchell Starc went down with foot fractures, but told selectors he preferred to work his fitness back up in the Shield.

The Bulls were rolled on day one for 208 — their blushes spared by retiring wicketkeeper Chris Hartley’s 57 — and then found themselves 72 behind on the first dig thanks to fifties to Rob Quiney and Aaron Finch as the Vics racked up 280.

It was then that all hell broke loose though, with Pattinson and fellow opener Chris Tremain destroying the Queensland top and middler order to reduce the Bulls to 7/21 in the 11th over of the innings.

Hartley again showed some fight in the second dig, top scoring with 18 and stemming the bleeding a touch in a 25 run stand with Cam Gannon.

Pattinson bowled both openers — Jimmy Peirson and Joe Burns — and Michael Neser in his rampaging spell, and got Sam Heazlett LBW.

Tremain ended with the figures of 2/20 off seven overs, while Scott Boland and Dan Christian wrapped up the innings.

Boland took 2/15 off his five overs and Christian 1/9 off his four sets.

The result means that Victoria will be hosting the Shield final at their replacement home ground Traeger Park in Alice Springs, probably against New South Wales.

The MCG is unavailable due to footy commitments.
