England quick Jimmy Anderson and Australian captain Steve Smith are engaging in a bizarre war of words in the last session of the first day of the Adelaide Ashes Test.

Anderson has been stationed next to Smith at the non-strikers end during Stuart Broad’s overs at Peter Handscomb, and the two are carrying on like high school kids.

The two were at each other, with words exchanged.

At one point umpire Aleem Dar had to stand between them to defuse the tension.

The mini-spat came after Anderson accused the Aussies of being “bullies” in the lead up to the match.

Smith responded by calling Anderson out, saying that the Pommy quick doesn’t exactly have a clean record.

"I think it's interesting coming from Jimmy calling us bullies and big sledgers,” he said.

"I think he's one of the biggest sledgers in the game to be perfectly honest with you.”
