Joe Burns Notches Up A Double Ton In The Sheffield Shield

Queensland opener Joe Burns has edged himself closer to the Test side, posting a double century in the Sheffield Shield.

Opening the batting, Burns batted all the way through to bring up a double ton late in the third day.

On 197, the 28-year-old chipped one over Adam Zampa's head for four to bring up his double century.

Burns finished on 202 not out with Queensland declaring, making it his highest ever first class score and his 15th first class century overall.

His knock came off 332 balls, featuring 15 fours and four sixes.

It continues a big run of form, with Burns making 81 and 103 last week against Western Australia.

He was well supported by captain and keeper Jimmy Peirson, who posted an unbeaten 82 alongside him, the two sharing an unbeaten 186-run stand for the sixth wicket.

All-rounder Jack Wildermuth also made a half century, posting 56, while Matt Renshaw's lean run continued, making just four before falling leg before wicket to Chadd Sayers.

Queensland declared at 5/389, behind South Australia's 485 all out.
