Kerry O’Keeffe's Hilarious Story About The One Time He Captained Australia

Fair to say it didn't go well

Triple M Cricket’s Kerry O’Keeffe dropped by The Rush Hour with Jars and Louie this afternoon, and spoke about the one time he captained Australia.

After Skull was anointed the captain of the commentary team, the boys asked if he’d ever skippered a cricket team before.

Listen to Skull’s hilarious response here:

“I captained New South Wales once — I was 0 and 1,” he said.

“And Doug Walters got hit by a bouncer, Australia v Minor Counties, 1977 — Minor Counties had never beaten Australia.

“He (Walters) got hit by a bouncer and couldn’t field, and he anointed me captain, he said ‘Skull, you take over’.

“I had one session as captain of Australia.

"We set them 220 in 30 overs… and they pissed it!

“The boys kept saying ‘Skull, you can set defensive fields’ and I said ‘oh no, if they lose a wicket, they’ll block and get the draw!’

“So they kept slogging and won with three overs to spare!”

The boys then wanted to know what Dougy Walters’ response to the loss was.

“He was unconscious!”

Judging by the scorecard, Skull may have laid a dollop of mayo on the story, but who cares when the story is that well told?

Skull will be heading up a star studded line-up for Triple M’s cricket coverage, with James Brayshaw, Mark Howard, Adam Gilchrist, Isa Guha and heaps more joining him for every ball from 10.30am AEDT Thursday!
