Former Australian Test cricketer Kerry O’Keeffe has called for Steve Smith and Darren Lehmann to be removed from their roles with the Australian T20 side.

Speaking on Triple M's Dead Set Legends, O'Keeffe believes we a need T20 'specialist' on-field as captain. Listen to the audio.

"We should get Smudger Smith (Steve Smith) to just take the 50-Over game and the Test game," O'Keeffe said.

"I think David Warner is our best leader in T20 because he knows that form of the game better than any other.

"He’s played more IPL, his win loss ratio in IPL is stunningly good. He knows the intra intricacies of it and it’s quite involved when you get into it and he knows.”

O'Keeffe also believes Australia need a more T20 experienced coach, as Darren Lehmann's knowledge of the short form of the game is very limited.

“And I think we need a different coach. I’d be looking at someone that’s has success at T20," he said.

"Somebody like Justin Langer from the Perth Scorchers who takes them to the finals most years.

"For Darren Lehmann to switch from form to form without ever having played T20 and without really having a history of success at it is difficult. It’s such a different form that I’d be looking to change the management of our national team.”
