Kevin Pietersen has responded to Darren Lehmann's tweet suggesting the Melbourne Stars should let him go.

Lehmann posted the tweet straight after the Stars lost to the Scorchers in the BBL|06 semi final.

"Time for stars to move KP on," he wrote.

"Spent to (sic) much money on him and didn't win. Don't want to listen to his excuses anymore."

Lehmann has since deleted the tweet.

"What a bummer that one is," he said on Kwickie, a video messaging app.

"I can only do my best for the Stars and I think I’ve done pretty well.

"First year I shared player of the year, second year I was player of the year, this year I have top-scored.

"I also think that the Stars probably wouldn’t have got involved from a team or a campaign (perspective) in such a huge way for the rhinos (an awareness initiative against poaching) if I didn’t offer anything to the franchise.

"So I’m very happy where I am, I love playing in Australia, I love playing for the Melbourne Stars and it’s like home to me."

In his time in the BBL Pietersen has scored 802 runs at an average of 40.1, including half-centuries, more runs than anyone bar Chris Lynn and Michael Klinger.

It also provoked a response from Eddie McGuire - the president of the Stars - on the Hot Breakfast.
