"You have blown $50,000, sir."

They were the words of New Zealand cricket commentator Ian Smith as one bloke in the crowd blew his chance at 50 grand.

During Wednesday's New Zealand/West Indies ODI ran the Tui Beer Catch A Million promotion, where a member of the crowd has to take a one-handed catch while wearing the promotional t-shirt.

Thanks to the handy work of Windies opener Evin Lewis, this bloke had the perfect chance.

He barely had to move as Lewis's pull shot lobbed straight in his direction.

But the ball didn't hit his hand properly, and spilled out.

Smith savaged the poor bloke for his efforts.

"Plenty of time to size this up if you’re in the catch competition,” he said.

"You have blown $50,000, sir. Blown it with that miserable piece of fielding.

"There was no one around him. No one competing for the ball. He had all the time in the world."

The look of desolation on his face summed it all up.

This comp has been won before, with one lucky bloke netting himself $100,000 for plucking a one-hander a few years ago.
