Queensland opener Matt Renshaw is flying to South Africa for the final Test.

The batsman is joining the squad as cover for Steve Smith, who has been suspended for one Test by the ICC for his role in the ball tampering saga.

Renshaw will fly to South Africa straight after the Sheffield Shield final, which finishes on Tuesday.

The 21-year-old has starred in the back half of the Sheffield Shield season, hitting centuries in three successive matches and making 37 in the first innings of the Sheffield Shield final.

He is currently approaching a half century in the second innings, leaving Queensland poised for victory.

The opener has played 10 Tests for Australia, averaging 36.64 with the bat.
