Both of the two most likely candidates to take the wicketkeeping gloves for Australia during the Ashes failed again today.

Peter Nevill couldn’t add to his overnight score of 32 in NSW’s game against WA, while Matthew Wade made 17 to back up his 9 from yesterday in Tasmania’s game against Queensland.

Nevill averages 26 from his two knocks in the Sheffield Shield this season, while Wade’s struggles are more pronounced.

In four innings he averages just 8.25 so far, and is not providing a compelling case for his selection.

Alex Carey is the other keeper pushing for selection, and he made 36 in the first innings of South Australia’s game against Victoria.

The wicketkeeper question is a tough one for Australia to answer, with every slot bar the number 6 spot pretty much nailed on.

There is one more round of Sheffield Shield games next weekend prior to the Ashes starting on November 23.

Triple M will be rocking the Ashes this summer, covering every single ball from day 1 at the Gabba to the last ball at the SCG!
