MCC Wastes No Time In Removing Viv Richards' Name From Bar Wall
He's been replaced!
Alastair Cook's record-breaking knock in the Boxing Day Test has forced a change at one of the bars inside the MCG.
The Pearcy Beames Bar inside the famous MCC proudly dedicates one of its walls to displaying the best bowling figures and highest run tallies achieved at the MCG by both an Australian and an international.
Bob Cowper's incredible 307 against England in the 1965-66 Ashes is still the highest score from an Aussie at the 'G, and until yesterday, Viv Richards' 208 runs he scored in 1984 was the highest from an International at the famous ground.
That was until England's former captain Cook strode the crease and delivered and incredible knock of 244 not out - the highest by an overseas player at the 'G.
His score relegated Richards from the wall of the Pearcy Beames bar, and it didn't take long for the MCC to take action, removing his name before the start of play on Day 4.
The bar, located inside the Members Pavillion, also recounts the incredible 9/121 Arthur Mailey against England at the 'G in the fourth test of the 1920-21 Ashes series, as well as Sarfraz Nawaz's 9/86 against the Aussies in 1978.
