MCG curator David Sandurski has resigned from his role and will depart just five weeks before the Boxing Day Ashes Test.

Sandurski’s last day will be November 17, after which he will return to Brisbane and take up a role as grounds manager at The Gabba.

In five years at the MCG, Sandurski prepared pitches for several high profile cricket events, including the 2013/14 Ashes and the 2015 World Cup final.

The MCC are adamant the MCG’s Ashes preparations won’t be harmed, and intend to immediately begin a global search for a replacement.

"Although we are disappointed to see David depart, we are confident that our extensive arenas team will be more than equipped to deliver first-class wickets for the upcoming summer of cricket at the MCG," said MCC General Manager of Facilities, Peter Wearne.

"We thank David for his contribution to the MCG and wish him well in his new role."
