For as long as sport has been broadcast, the concept of the Commentator’s Curse has existed.

It happens when a commentator heaps praise on a player who then goes on to make a mistake, and Michael Slater pulled off a perfect example on yesterday’s cricket coverage.

The Aussies were making careful progress in their chase of 323, recovering from the recognised batsmen wobbling with Pat Cummins and Mitch Starc making progress.

They were 7/228 in the 101st over and starting to look comfortable, when Slats dropped the mozz.

“This partnership, 41 from 98 and it is looking comfortable,” he said.

The Aussies went on to get agonisingly close, with the last five wickets putting on 176 to get the Aussies to 291 — 31 short of India.
