The Australian camp has named NSW firebrand quick Pat Cummins as the replacement for Mitch Starc in the Test squad over in India.

Starc has been sent home with stress fractures in his foot in a massive blow for the Aussies.

Cummins has made himself a mainstay of the Australian ODI squad and had a successful Big Bash for the Sydney Thunder.

The 23-year-old has memorably played one Test for Australia, a famous victory against South Africa at the Wanderers in November 2011 at the age of 18.

Cummins ran through the Proteas in the second innings with figures of 6/79 and hit the winning runs in a massive chase of 310.

He won the man of the match award in his only Test to date, and has since been struck down by a series of injuries.

Cummins averages 25.88 with the ball at first-class level and 30.66 with the bat, meaning the Aussies will be hoping he can replicate Starc’s output in both disciplines.

The third Test starts in Ranchi on Thursday.
