Mitch Johnson’s 2013/14 Ashes series has gone down in history as one of the most dominant fast bowling displays ever.

Johnson destroyed the Poms over and over again, visibly scaring the English batsmen on the way to taking 37 wickets at an average of 13.97.

This time around Mitch Starc is the Aussie strike bowler, and while he isn’t as scary as Johnson, the stats show he’s just as effective to this point.

After the first five innings of the 2013/14 Ashes Test, Johnson had taken 19 wickets at the expense of 278 runs at an average of 14.63 and an economy rate of 2.73.

Meanwhile, Starc has 18 wickets for 356 runs at an average 19.78 and going at 3.28 an over.

Johnson's strike rate at this stage was 32.05 — meaning he took a wicket every 32 balls — while Starc's figure is 36.16.

So Starc has been a bit more expensive and takes a few more balls to get his wickets, but the stats aren't too far away.

A big left arm quick named Mitch wrecking the batting order — it’s all a big sense of deja vu for the Poms.
