Mitchell Marsh has been added to the Test squad.

Marsh has replaced Chadd Sayers in the squad for the third Test at the WACA, starting next week.

He has leapfrogged fellow Western Australian Hilton Cartwright as well as in-form Victorian Glenn Maxwell into the Test squad.

He looms as a possibility in the middle order, with his ability to bowl pace in favour and able to ease the workload on Australia's three quicks.

Marsh has recently started bowling again after suffering a shoulder injury early in the year, needing a shoulder reconstruction.

Marsh is averaging a healthy 44.66 with the bat in the Sheffield Shield, including one century and one half-century as well as taking two wickets in his match against Queensland.

Australia Test squad:

Steve Smith (c), David Warner (vc), Cameron Bancroft, Usman Khawaja, Peter Handscomb, Mitchell Marsh, Shaun Marsh, Tim Paine (wk), Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, Nathan Lyon, Josh Hazlewood, Jackson Bird
