Queensland just pulled off an epic Sheffield Shield win over Western Australia at the Gabba to almost ensure that they will host the competition final.

The game appeared to be headed for a draw after rain played a significant part on the first three days, but a sporting declaration from WA and classy 143 from Matt Renshaw let them set a target of 305.

The Warriors then collapsed badly, losing 4/4, 4/9 and 2/2 in separate clumps on the way to a final total of 93.

Jack Wildermuth (4/25) and Michael Neser (3/41) did the most damage for Queensland.

Earlier rain had washed out all bar 15 balls of the first day and had also made play impossible in the first session of the second.

Rain had also stopped play several times on the third day.

The result leaves Queensland around eight points clear on the top of the table, with Victoria and Tasmania set to play what effectively amounts to an elimination final in the last round starting next Wednesday.
