Seven Network has pipped Nine and Ten to Cricket Australia's media rights in a "stunning coup".

While an official announcement is expected from CA later this afternoon, rumours that Nine had lost the rights for the first time in 40 years began swirling late last night and an announcement has just been made to the Australian Stock Exchange confirming that cricket will be aired exclusively on Seven and Foxtel.

Earlier this morning, sources told The Australian that the contract was as good as signed, adding that "Nine had not talked to CA for two days".

It means that Seven will now, in partnership with Foxtel, broadcast both internationals and Big Bash League games in a deal expected to net CA more than $1 billion over six years.

It also gives the network a much needed boost after losing the media rights to the tennis to Nine last month.

Cricket Australia is due to make an announcement at 2pm (AEST) today.
