Shane Watson smashed a dominant century in the IPL final overnight, almost singlehandedly getting his team, Chennai Super Kings, over the line against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Watson clubbed 117 not out off just 57 balls as CSK chased down Hyderabad’s 178 with nine balls to spare.
Remarkably, it took Watson 11 balls to get off the mark, but after that he belted 11 fours and eight sixes in the monster knock.
The chase looked a big ask after four overs when the Super Kings lost Faf du Plessis to fall to 1/16, but the next wicket didn’t fall until until they’d put on 133.
Suresh Raina contributed just 32 of the 117 run stand.
Watson’s man of the match knock completed a good tournament for the Aussies, with Andrew Tye taking the Purple Cap for leading wicket taker with his 24 poles.
