Play was suspended midway through the Sheffield Shield clash between New South Wales and Queensland...because Nathan Lyon burnt his toast.

Players and umpires were told to stop after Gaz accidentally burnt his toast, setting off a smoke alarm and causing firefighters to arrive at Allan Border Field.

Play was halted for around 30 minutes as the fire alarm went off and the stand housing the players, scorers and media was evacuated.

He told cricket.com.au he got a bit distracted watching the game, and forgot to keep his eyes on the toaster.

"(The toast) popped up first and I wasn't happy so I put it back down and I got carried away watching the cricket," he told cricket.com.au.

"There's a first for everything...I was getting a bit bored in the changerooms.

"Steve Smith already said he's going to cover it (the fire truck call-out fee)."
