Steve Smith is bang in the middle of a patch so purple that Cadbury are considering suing for copyright infringement.

Records have just kept tumbling when the little maestro has been at the crease, and today has been no different.

When he got to his 26th run off the bowling of Mason Crane at the SCG, he became the equal-second fastest player in Test history to 6000 runs.

Smith’s 111 innings is equal with West Indian legend Sir Garfield Sobers, with only Don Bradman ahead of them on an eye-watering 68 innings.

Triple M Cricket stats guru Ash Chua said that the stats are even more remarkable when you condense the time frame.

“[Smith is the] 15th Australian to score 6000 runs,” Chua said.

“He’s scored 5030 out of his 6000 runs since the start of 2014.”

At 28 years and 217 days, Smith is also the youngest Australian to the milestone, ahead of Ricky Ponting.

Long may he continue.
