Stuart Broad has had a nightmare of an Ashes series.

Going into the Boxing Day Test he was averaging over 60 with the ball, with his 0/142 at the WACA representing his worst ever figures in Test cricket.

His contribution with the bat hasn’t been any better, having scored just 45 runs at 7.5.

Today he took his first wicket since the first innings of the Adelaide Test, managing to get Usman Khawaja nicking behind for 17.

In all he’d bowled 19 overs in Adelaide, 35 in Perth and 15.1 today before between wickets — a total of 69.1 overs (or 415) balls.

It’s far cry from his usual strike rate of a wicket every 58.6 balls.

The Aussies are 3/176 in the 61st over of the first day at the MCG, with Steve Smith on 24 and Shaun Marsh 1.
