Two teenagers saved the life of a cricketer who collapsed while chasing a ball and stopped breathing in Rosebud yesterday.

49-year-old Darren Jones was filing in a sub fielder for Rosebud in a game against Langwarrin at Olympic Park when he suffered a heart attack while chasing a ball.

At that point Rosebud under-16s player Josh Ritchie-Crichton went to Jones’s aid and performed CPR.

He was quickly joined by Kieran Hanley, 17, who was playing in Rosebud’s first XI.

Hanley and Ritchie-Crichton kept Jones breathing before an ambulance got there and took him to hospital.

Rosebud Cricket Club coach Jason Mathers said the teens’ quick acting prevented a tragedy.

“He (Jones) was not breathing for 17 minutes,’’ Mathers told News Corp.

“At one stage there we thought he was gone, and then he was up saying to the ambos, ‘what the hell are you doing? Leave me alone’.’’
