The Australian selectors have decided to give Matthew Wade the captaincy of Australia for the upcoming ODI tour in New Zealand, according to Fairfax Media.
The decision to go with Wade comes after normal skipper Steve Smith had to pull out with an ankle ligament injury.
Vice-captain David Warner has been rested from the tour, meaning selectors had to decide who to captain the side in their absence.
They plumped for Wade ahead of former T20 captain Aaron Finch and South Australia skipper Travis Head.
Wade will become Australia’s 24th captain of the ODI side.
Smith hurt his ankle in yesterday’s win against Pakistan at Adelaide Oval.
However, he is not believed to be in doubt for the first Test against India starting February 23rd.
