The Thunder just won the Sydney Derby against the Sixers in a ridiculous super over finish at the SCG.

The two teams couldn’t be separated after 20 overs, both scoring 138 in their allotted 20 overs.

Ashleigh Gardner made 54 off 41 for the Sixers, before Stafanie Taylor knocked up 68 from 51 for the Thunder.

The level scores meant that a super over had to be played, and remarkably both sides made eight in their six balls.

Thunder bats Rachael Haynes and Taylor struggled to get away Kim Garth’s tight super over, but were spared by a bizarre batting display the Sixers.

Alyssa Healy was run out when she neglected to ground her bat, Ellyse Perry caught slogging in the deep and Angela Reakes run out coming back for two.

Under the old rules, the Thunder would have won when they took the second wicket, but the laws have changed allowing more batters in the super overs.

Instead, the result went to a count back which the Thunder won by virtue of having scored more boundaries in the initial innings.

The Sixers remain at the top of the WBBL ladder despite the loss, with a record of 8-4 after 12 matches.

The Thunder are sixth with a 5-5 record and one no result.
