Former Australian international Stuart Law has been appointed as head coach of the West Indies.

The 48-year-old — who debuted in the same Test as Ricky Ponting but never played a second match — will work under new director of cricket Jimmy Adams and chairman of selectors Courtney Browne.

Law, whose tenure will begin on the 15th of February, has previously coached Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.

"I am excited at the opportunity to contribute to what I think is an interesting time for West Indies," Law said.

"I think this assignment has come at an important time of my career."

Law is the third Aussie to coach the Windies after Bennett King and John Dyson.

The Windies have been without a coach since Phil Simmons was sacked in September.
