New Zealand's just overseen a cricket world record.

Two Kiwi batsmen - Joe Carter and Brett Hampton - just clunked 43 runs off one over in their domestic one-day competition.

The Northern Districts duo, up against unlucky Central Districts youngster Willem Ludick, both smacked six after six in the over.

The first ball went for four, thanks to Hampton, before three successive sixes, two of them off waist-high no balls.

He hit a single to give Carter a run who then plundered three more sixes, all off half volleys, to make it 43 off the over.

It tops the previous world record of 39 runs off one over in a 50-over game, scored by Zimbabwe's Elton Chigumbura in a one-dayer in the 2013/14 season.

Carter finished unbeaten on 102 off 77 balls while Hampton was dismissed for 95 off 66.
