South African fast bowler Vernon Philander has slammed Steve Smith’s involvement in the send-off incident that ended with Kagiso Rabada copping a two Test ban, suggesting Smith was as much to blame as Rabada was.

Rabada brushed shoulders with Smith after getting him out LBW in the first innings, and was subsequently banned for two Tests for the incident due in part to his poor disciplinary record.

South Africa are appealing the decision in a bid to have Rabada available for the rest of the series.

Meanwhile, Philander took to Twitter and blasted Smith, saying that the Aussie skipper instigated the physical confrontation.

Philander’s comments are more fuel for the fire of a spiteful series, with tempers flaring on and off the field regularly.

The third Test at Newlands in Cape Town starts next Thursday night Australia time.
