Spin king Shane Warne has said that England are in better shape than Australia heading into Thursday’s first Ashes Test at the Gabba.

Speaking at Channel Nine’s launch of the summer of cricket, Warnie said that the Aussie’s shock squad selections worried him.

The Aussies dropped Glenn Maxwell for Shaun Marsh at six, brought in Tim Paine as wicketkeeper — despite him not having played as a keeper for Tasmania this season — and swapped opener Matt Renshaw for West Australian run machine Cameron Bancroft.

“Australia looks confused,” Warne said.

“They’re picking wicketkeepers that aren’t even keeping for their state.

“To me, I think England are in a better situation going into that first Test than Australia are.”
