Today's Women's Big Bash League clash has seen the Renegades defeat the Sixers - but not without controversy.

Chasing a target of 121, the Sixers needed three runs to win off the last ball - and two to tie - with bowler Sarah Aley on strike.

She inside edged the ball to short fine leg and snuck through for a single, seemingly giving the Renegades a one-run win.

Renegades wicketkeeper Emma Inglis gathered the throw in and celebrated with her teammates, dropping the ball near the stumps.

But she celebrated too early - with the ball lying near the stumps, Aley called teammate Angela Reakes through for a second run, tying the game.

The umpires confirmed the ball was not dead and the extra run would stand.

After the Sixers made 2/8 in their super over, the Renegades had Jess Duffin hit a boundary off the first ball before a single off the last ball of the over saw them clinch victory.
